15 expats arrested in Kuwait crackdown on illegal businesses
Add ARY News on GoogleFollow on Google Discoverimage: kuwait govtAAResizeKUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti authorities have arrested 15 expatriate workers and shut down several illegal businesses during an inspection campaign in Farwaniya Governorate, according to local media.
The campaign was carried out by security authorities in cooperation with the Committee for Negative Phenomena and other government agencies. It targeted violations of residency, commercial, food safety and municipal regulations.
Authorities identified several violations during the campaign, including:
15 workers allegedly violating Article 20 by engaging in commercial activities inside a private residential property.
Four grocery stores operating illegally in private residential areas.
One tailor shop operating without the required authorization.
Several properties being used as accommodation for bachelors, in violation of regulations.
Expired and unfit-for-human-consumption food products, including frozen meat and fish.
Tobacco products found at the inspected locations.
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition issued citations and destroyed food products deemed unfit for human consumption.
Kuwait Municipality also issued violation reports and warnings, while the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy disconnected power supplies to the properties found in violation.
Legal action was taken against those involved, and procedures were initiated to deport the violating workers in accordance with Kuwait’s regulations.
Earlier, on October 4, Kuwait revoked the citizenship of 415 people under six decrees published in the official gazette, Kuwait Alyoum.
According to the decrees, citizenship was withdrawn from six people under Decree No. 155 of 2026, while Decree No. 156 covered 286 individuals. Decree No. 157 revoked the citizenship of 14 women.

Under Decree No. 158, citizenship was withdrawn from 25 people, while Decree No. 159 covered 41 individuals. Decree No. 160 revoked the citizenship of another 43 people.
The decrees stated that the withdrawal of citizenship would also apply to individuals who had acquired Kuwaiti nationality through dependency on those whose citizenship was revoked.
The decrees were issued at Al-Seif Palace on September 8, 2026, and are to be implemented by Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
