Bad News for Gachagua as Government Spokesperson Alleges What Awaits Him After 2027 Election
Government Spokesperson Charles Owino has warned that the government will pursue former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after the elections over remarks allegedly spreading tension and undermining national unity.
Owino accused Gachagua of making false and divisive claims concerning state security and national affairs. He said such statements could heighten political tensions and create unnecessary anxiety among Kenyans during the election period.
The government spokesperson stressed that political leaders have a responsibility to promote peace and cohesion, particularly as the country approaches the highly contested general elections and heightened political activity.
According to Owino, authorities have deliberately avoided taking immediate legal action against Gachagua to prevent further escalation of political tensions. He, however, warned that the decision should not be interpreted as permanent immunity.
Owino said Gachagua will be summoned after the elections to record an official statement over his recent public remarks. The move is expected to pave the way for further investigations into the allegations raised.
The warning comes amid growing disagreements between Gachagua and government officials, with the former Deputy President repeatedly criticizing the administration and raising concerns about governance, security and the country’s political direction.
Government officials have accused political actors of using inflammatory rhetoric at a time when the country requires stability. Owino maintained that authorities would continue monitoring public statements that could contribute to tension or misinformation.
Security agencies have also reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the election period. Officials urged political leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint and avoid statements capable of dividing communities.
Owino’s warning signals that the government intends to revisit Gachagua’s remarks once the elections are concluded, with authorities insisting that accountability will follow while urging Kenyans to remain peaceful during the electoral process.
