Motorcyclist killed in Loveland crash
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of West 29th Street and North Taft Avenue, the Loveland Police Department said in a Monday news release.
The 18-year-old was traveling northbound on North Taft Avenue on a Yamaha motorcycle when he collided with a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 17-year-old from Loveland, police said.
The Toyota was turning left onto eastbound West 29th Street when the collision occurred, and the 18-year-old was thrown from the bike, according to police.
Thompson Valley EMS attempted lifesaving measures on the motorcyclist, who remained unresponsive. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The identity of the 18-year-old will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family and an autopsy.
Early investigation indicates speeding by the motorcyclist may have contributed to the crash, according to the release.
Drugs or alcohol are not currently being considered as contributing factors by investigators.
The Loveland Police Department CRASH Team is handling the investigation because of the severity of the crash, police said.
“The Loveland Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by this tragic incident,” Loveland police said. “Crashes like this carry a heavy weight, and our thoughts remain with those impacted.”
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Loveland Police Department nonemergency number at (970) 667-2151.
