Breaking: Zuma Has Reportedly Announced Manyi As The Parliamentary Party Leader For MK Party, Check

Former South African president and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader Jacob Zuma has introduced major changes to the party’s leadership structure, including appointing his son, Duduzane Zuma, as first deputy president.

The changes have generated fresh discussion about the MK Party’s internal organisation, leadership direction and the growing prominence of individuals who have maintained close political associations with Zuma.

Duduzane Zuma’s appointment was announced in August 2026. Party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu confirmed that he had assumed the position of first deputy president with immediate effect. John Hlophe, who previously occupied the position, remained in his role as the party’s parliamentary leader.

The appointment formed part of a wider restructuring that saw several senior party officials removed from their positions or reassigned to other responsibilities. Zuma’s decision to place his son in one of the party’s highest-ranking positions has subsequently raised questions about succession, internal influence and the future direction of the organisation.

Mzwanele Manyi remains a member of the MK Party in Parliament. Current parliamentary records list him among the party’s National Assembly representatives, where he also serves on various committees.

Manyi previously held the position of MK Party chief whip after joining the organisation from the Economic Freedom Fighters in 2024. At the time, the party highlighted his experience in government and the corporate sector as an asset to its parliamentary activities.

There have also been claims that Manyi was being considered for another senior position within the party, alongside allegations that the Gupta family played a role in leadership discussions. Such claims remain allegations unless supported by independent evidence.

Manyi has maintained a longstanding association with Zuma and previously worked as spokesperson for the Jacob G. Zuma Foundation. His links to the former president have also brought him into discussions surrounding the Gupta family and its historical relationship with Zuma’s political circle.

The Gupta family became a major subject of controversy during Zuma’s presidency, particularly during investigations and debates surrounding State Capture.

For now, available party and parliamentary information identifies Hlophe as the MK Party’s parliamentary leader, while Duduzane Zuma holds the position of first deputy president.
