A member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Women Mobilisation Wing, Gloria Akobundu, has declared that Nigeria is on the path to renewed greatness, urging women across the country to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Akobundu spoke in Abuja at the APC Women Stakeholders’ Mobilisation and Empowerment Pre-Inaugural Summit convened by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, according to a statement she issued on Tuesday.

The event also witnessed the reported collapse of more than 500 women support groups from across the six geopolitical zones into the APC Presidential Campaign Council Women Wing, with the groups endorsing Tinubu for a second term.

The groups, according to the organisers, include independent women support organisations such as the Torch Bearers and other grassroots mobilisation platforms.

US President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of former US Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted over the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people and wounded 32 others.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced the decision in a post on X on Monday, saying Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth had recommended the execution and Trump had approved it.

“Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan.

“The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution,” Parnell said.

About 70 per cent of Nigerian children under 10 cannot read and understand a simple sentence, highlighting the country’s deepening learning crisis and raising concerns about its ability to build a productive workforce, the National Human Capital Development Programme has said.

The National Coordinator of Human Capital Development 2.0 and Special Adviser to the President of the National Economic Council and Climate Change, Rukaiya el-Rufai, disclosed this at a media engagement on the nation’s human capital development strategy on Monday in Abuja.

The coordinator said the learning crisis was particularly worrying because being physically present in school did not necessarily mean that children were acquiring the literacy and numeracy skills required to participate productively in the economy.

Only 22 of the 290 primary healthcare centres listed as revitalised across six states have functional ambulances, with many facilities falling short of the standards set by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, a field investigation by Orodata Science has revealed.

The findings also showed that nearly one-third of the facilities assessed had either not been started, had stalled or been abandoned, or had not been put to use, despite being listed as revitalised.

The findings further highlight a major gap in the readiness of the facilities to deliver effective primary healthcare services and respond to emergencies in the communities they serve.

The states investigated were Abia, Benue, Cross River, Kano, Osun and Taraba.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said the removal of fuel subsidy helped President Bola Tinubu’s administration increase investment in critical aviation infrastructure, with about $500m raised for the reconstruction of the Lagos airport and other need-specific aviation infrastructure within two years.

The minister said this on Monday at the 67th anniversary of Aero Contractors in Lagos. Keyamo, who spoke while highlighting the administration’s investments in the aviation sector, was responding to a question posed to him by the Managing Director of the airline as to the status of the aviation industry in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Keyamo responded, saying the funds used for the critical infrastructural developments were not raised through borrowing but were made possible by improvements in the country’s liquidity and foreign reserves.

He said, “Let’s be honest. Forget about what the politicians are saying. You know, we are all politicians. But I am saying, in actual fact, that is what happened.
