How Is A 9-Year-Old Already In SHS? — Bongo Ideas Questions Parents

Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, has questioned how a nine-year-old boy could already be in Senior High School (SHS), saying he has seen videos of the young boy who is reportedly that age.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on October 5, 2026, Bongo Ideas criticised what he described as the unnecessary practice of parents rushing their children through school. He argued that even when a child is exceptionally brilliant, parents should allow the child to progress through the appropriate stages of development.

Bongo Ideas said education should not be viewed only in terms of passing examinations, stressing that children also need time to develop physically, emotionally and socially. He questioned how a nine-year-old could have already reached SHS when the journey from Primary 1 to JHS 3 alone normally spans nine academic years.

He wondered whether the boy had been skipping classes to reach SHS at such a young age, using a humorous comparison to question how the situation had happened. He also urged parents to stop rushing their children ahead simply to prove that they are smarter than others.

“No matter how brilliant a child is, allow them to grow through the proper stages. Education is not just about passing exams; children need to develop physically, emotionally and socially too,” he stated.

He further argued that childhood should not be treated as a competition among parents seeking to demonstrate the intelligence of their children. According to him, children should be allowed to experience childhood while progressing through the various stages of education at an appropriate pace.

Bongo Ideas concluded by reiterating his concern about the reported nine-year-old SHS student and advised parents to desist from such practice.
