‘Apart From Juju, What Better Role Can You Play?’ – Ghana Director Challenges Kanayo

According to a Post by Ghbase on Facebook Official account on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, a Ghanaian movie director, Agyemang, has responded strongly to veteran Nigerian actor Kanayo O. Kanayo following comments the actor made about some Ghanaian actors.

Agyemang challenged Kanayo to concentrate on the movie assignment that brought him to Ghana instead of making remarks about actors in the Ghanaian film industry.

In a video circulating online, the Ghanaian filmmaker also took a swipe at Kanayo’s reputation for portraying characters associated with ritual and occult practices in movies.

He questioned whether the Nigerian actor had taken on other roles that had left a significant emotional impact on audiences.

“Apart from juju, what better role can you play again?” Agyemang asked.

He continued by questioning Kanayo’s acting range and insisted that coming to Ghana for a production did not place the veteran actor above Ghanaian entertainers.

According to Agyemang, Kanayo should remain focused on the type of roles for which he is widely known instead of criticising his Ghanaian counterparts.

He also wondered why Kanayo travelled to Ghana for a film job if there were enough wealthy individuals in Nigeria capable of offering him similar opportunities.

“If there are many rich men in Nigeria, why didn’t he accept their jobs and come to Ghana?” he questioned.

Agyemang further condemned the ongoing comparisons between actors from Ghana and Nigeria, saying such remarks could create unnecessary tension instead of strengthening cooperation between the two film industries.

He advised Kanayo, whom he described as an experienced actor, to be more careful with his public statements.

“A man of your calibre shouldn’t talk anyhow. It’s wrong,” Agyemang stated.

His response follows recent comments by Kanayo, who criticised some Ghanaian actors for allegedly expecting to receive fees comparable to established Nigerian stars when they work together on joint movie productions.
