All Three Indian Nationals Safe After Black Sea Vessel Attack: Embassy
All three Indian nationals among the crew of commercial vessel MV Royad Mammadov are safe following an attack on the ship in the Black Sea, the Indian Embassy in Romania said on Monday.
The Embassy said it had spoken to all three Indians and confirmed that one of them was injured and receiving medical treatment in Romania.
“Ambassador Manoj Mohapatra spoke with the three Indian nationals receiving treatment at Constanța County Hospital,” the Embassy said, adding that he also spoke with the hospital’s Chief Physician, who confirmed that all three were in good health and receiving necessary care.
The Ambassador assured the Indian nationals of all possible assistance and support, the Embassy said.
The mission had earlier said it was in close contact with Romanian authorities to ascertain the safety and welfare of the Indian crew members following the reported attack on the vessel.
According to the Embassy, preliminary information indicated two foreign nationals were killed in the attack, while some crew members sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals in Romania.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Black Sea, where commercial shipping and maritime infrastructure have increasingly been affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In August, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha briefed External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during a phone conversation on the situation in the Black Sea and discussed efforts to restore freedom of navigation in the region.
Sybiha said intensified attacks on ports and maritime routes posed risks not only to Ukrainian food exports but also to global food security and millions of families worldwide.
The Indian Embassy said it was continuing to coordinate with the relevant authorities and hospital officials to provide all possible assistance to the Indian nationals.
