Kenya Met Warns of Heavy Rain, Hot Days and Chilly Nights Across the Country
Kenya is set for a mix of rainfall, hot daytime conditions and chilly nights this week as the Kenya Meteorological Department releases its latest seven-day forecast covering Tuesday, October 6, to Monday, October 12, 2026.
According to the forecast, rainfall is expected across parts of 46 counties, with different regions experiencing morning rains, afternoon showers, thunderstorms and night rainfall.
In the Coast region, parts of Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu are expected to receive morning and afternoon showers.
Several counties in Central and Eastern Kenya, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Laikipia and Taita Taveta, are also expected to receive rainfall during the week.
In Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria region, counties including Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori and Kericho are likely to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms following sunny intervals in the morning.
Northern Kenya will also see varying weather conditions, with morning rains forecast in parts of Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, Turkana and Wajir.
At the same time, temperatures will vary sharply across the country. Parts of Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana could record daytime temperatures exceeding 35°C, while some highland areas are expected to experience minimum night temperatures below 10°C.
The colder nights are expected in parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Nyeri, Trans Nzoia, Taita Taveta and Kajiado.
Nairobi is also among the areas expecting a mixture of morning rains, afternoon showers and possible night rainfall during the forecast period.
The latest forecast comes as Kenya enters the October–December short-rains season, with the Met Department warning that rainfall patterns will vary considerably across the country.
Residents are therefore advised to monitor daily weather updates, particularly in areas prone to flooding, thunderstorms and strong winds.
