Just Hours After Returning From UK, Oburu Oginga Admitted to Nairobi Hospital Over Chronic Illness
ODM party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has been admitted to Nairobi Hospital just hours after returning to Kenya from the United Kingdom, where he had travelled for a medical check-up.
According to a report by The Star, Oburu was admitted on Saturday and was still receiving treatment at the hospital on Monday, October 5. A source at the facility said the veteran politician was being treated for a chronic illness, although further details about his condition remain limited.
Oburu had travelled to the UK in September for what he described as a routine medical assessment. At the time, he said the trip had been undertaken on the advice of his doctors and ODM officials, with the aim of undergoing a comprehensive health check and taking some time to rest.
The latest admission follows previous visits to Nairobi Hospital in August and September. Oburu had earlier dismissed reports that he was seriously unwell, explaining that his hospital visits were for medical check-ups.
His hospitalisation comes at a significant time for ODM, which is adjusting to major changes following the death of its founding leader, Raila Odinga. Oburu has continued serving as party leader, although his absence from public activities has increased attention on other senior figures within the party.
Neither Oburu’s family nor ODM has issued a detailed public statement on his current condition. His return to political activities is expected to depend on his recovery and the advice of his doctors as the party prepares for the 2027 General Election.
