Sifuna’s 2027 Bid Gets Major Boost as New Poll Puts Him Ahead of Kalonzo and Gachagua
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has emerged as the second-most preferred presidential candidate in a new Politrack Research Team survey ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The survey, conducted between September 15 and 25, placed President William Ruto first with 45.1 per cent of respondents naming him as their preferred candidate. Sifuna followed with 19.6 per cent, while Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka recorded 10.3 per cent.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i received 7.2 per cent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recorded 6.0 per cent. The survey also found that 8.4 per cent of respondents were undecided.
The figures place Sifuna ahead of several established opposition figures in the reported preference rankings. However, the results measure respondents’ choices at the time of the September fieldwork and should not be treated as a prediction of the 2027 election outcome.
The poll comes shortly after Sifuna was unveiled as leader and presidential candidate of The Equitable Party on October 4. Party officials said TEP had restructured its leadership to accommodate Sifuna and his supporters as he prepares for the presidential contest.
Several leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement attended the launch, including Babu Owino, James Orengo, George Natembeya and Boni Khalwale. Sifuna has also indicated that TEP could be rebranded as Linda Mwananchi Movement after the movement secured approval to reserve the name.
The latest survey therefore adds a new data point to the increasingly competitive 2027 political debate. With several opposition leaders still pursuing their own political paths, future polls and coalition negotiations will show whether the current preferences change as the election approaches.
