Over 50 closed historic Gurdwaras to be restored: Arora
LAHORE – Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora said that more than 50 historic Gurdwaras, which had remained closed since 1947, were being restored and reopened under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Addressing the members of Sikh sangat during his visit to Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar in New Jersey, the provincial minister highlighted the Punjab government’s initiatives for preservation of Sikh religious heritage, protection of minority rights and promotion of interfaith harmony, said a handout issued here on Monday. Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora said the government was systematically restoring historic Gurdwaras and taking measures to protect important religious sites associated with Sikh history and heritage. He said preservation of Sikh heritage reflected Pakistan’s deep historical, religious and spiritual connection with the global Sikh community. The minister invited the Sikh diaspora to visit Pakistan, explore the places associated with the Sikh Gurus and reconnect with their sacred religious and historical heritage. He said the government was also working to improve religious tourism infrastructure, facilitate visas and strengthen arrangements for the convenience and security of pilgrims visiting religious sites.
