Meet Caster Semenya’s beautiful wife and adorable children

Mokgadi Caster Semenya was born on 7 January 1991 in Ga-Masehlong, a village near Polokwane in Limpopo. She is one of South Africa’s most celebrated athletes, with multiple gold medals at major events including the Olympics.

From 2009 onwards she faced intense public scrutiny over her eligibility to compete as a woman. Through those difficult years her partner and family provided steady support.

Caster Semenya is married to Violet Raseboya. The two first met in 2007 in a restroom at an athletics meeting. Caster was being escorted by anti-doping officials when Violet, who mistook her for a boy, asked why there was a boy in the women’s toilet. Caster replied that she was not a boy and was not lost. At the time Violet was still coming to terms with her own feelings after previously dating men.

They eventually began a relationship and held a traditional wedding ceremony in Limpopo in December 2015. A formal white wedding followed in January 2017 at Chez Charlene Wedding Venue in Pretoria. The couple have now been married for more than nine years and continue to mark their anniversaries publicly.

Caster and Violet are parents to two daughters. Their first child, Oratile, was born on 5 July 2019 after several unsuccessful attempts at insemination. Their second daughter, Oarabile, was born in 2021. Both children carry the Semenya surname. The couple have generally kept their daughters out of the spotlight, though in 2026 they shared family photographs that included the girls’ faces for the first time.

Caster has often described Violet as her constant support and the person she can rely on through every challenge. Their family life remains private, focused on raising their daughters away from the intense public attention that has followed Caster’s athletic career.
