2 arrested after drive-by shooting at apartment complex near Michigan City
LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – Two people were arrested after police said a drive-by shooting just outside Michigan City left two other people injured Sunday evening.
According to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened Oct. 4 at the Woodland Crossing Apartment Complex and involved two vehicles.
Police said they found a crashed vehicle near the intersection of County Road 400 North and Woodland Avenue. The passenger, a 24-year-old man, suffered an upper-body gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
According to police, Cevin Crawford, 28, was driving the vehicle before the crash.
As the investigation continued, police said a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital. He was later transferred to another hospital for advanced treatment of an upper-body injury.
Police said Crawford was uncooperative with deputies at the crash scene. He was arrested on seven counts, including felony intimidation, operating while intoxicated and disorderly conduct. He is being held without bond at the LaPorte County Jail.
Crawford’s mother, 51-year-old Tina Sherrod, arrived at the scene and was arrested on a charge of refusing to leave an emergency incident area after police said she refused multiple directions to leave the immediate area of the active investigation. She was later released from the LaPorte County Jail on a cash bond.
The shooting remains under investigation.
