Todayโ€™s Headlines: Voting for Obi in 2027 Is Betrayal โ€” Anambra Govt, Obasanjo, Sanusi Advocate Government Intervention, Collaboration for Food Security

The Anambra State Government has warned supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against backing Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, framing such support as a betrayal of the party that produced him as governor.

The government fired the warning in a post titled โ€œA Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGAโ€, accusing Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, of working against APGA since leaving the party in 2014.

โ€œA vote for Peter Obi and the NDC is a vote to kill APGA,โ€ the government said.

It accused the former Anambra governor of turning against the political platform that helped launch his rise to national prominence.

โ€œSince 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him,โ€ the statement alleged.

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on the government of Nigeria to expedite action towards restoring peace to farming communities troubled by insecurity saying that insecurity has a negative impact on the countryโ€™s food production capacity.

He made these remarks while delivering his address at the 2026 AgriConnectX Summit held in Lagos over the weekend.

According to him, the challenge of insecurity in farming communities rests on the government to address so as to ensure that farmers can peacefully cultivate food for the Nigerian public.

โ€œToday, farmers are in pain in some parts of the country because of insecurity. Some have abandoned their farms. Some are still crying, hoping that when they are producing their crops, some people will not come at gun point and take their crops away.

Two men died off the French coast overnight while attempting to cross the Channel to Britain, while two women were hospitalised with burns, French authorities said on Monday.

The latest Channel tragedy occurred off the coast of the northern town of Berck late Sunday. Two women suffering burns over large areas of their bodies were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

La Voix du Nord, a regional daily newspaper, reported that the burns were caused by a chemical reaction that occurs when gasoline mixes with seawater.

According to the report, a boat carrying 120 people set off on Sunday night, leaving about 20 migrants stranded in the water after they were unable to board.
