Yobe FMC medical director loses twin daughters, a doctor and pharmacist, two days apart
The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe State, Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, has lost her twin daughters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi, a medical doctor and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, a pharmacist, within two days of each other.
Hadiyah and Aidah, passed away on Friday, October 2, and Sunday, October 4, 2026 following complications associated with sickle cell disease.
Hadiyah d!ed on Friday after being admitted at FMC Nguru for about a week following a sickle cell crisis.
Her twin sister, Aidah, was receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period but reportedly recovered and was discharged.
Hadiyah was laid to rest after funeral prayers at the Emirâs Palace on Friday.
Two days after attending her twin sisterâs burial, Aidah visited Hadiyahâs grave.
She reportedly suddenly fainted after the visit and was rushed to hospital, where she d!ed.
The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, confirmed Aidahâs d3ath in a post on its Facebook page, describing her as âthe second twinâ of Professor Usman.
Usman is a Professor of Gynaecological Oncology and Reproductive Health and was the first female Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist produced by the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
She was promoted to the rank of professor in 2018 after years in clinical and academic medicine.
She became the fourth Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMC Nguru in November 2022 and is the first woman to hold the position at the centre.
