Lisa Snowdon has confirmed she has split from fiancé George Smart after the pair ‘grew apart’.
The presenter and model, 54, declared that she is now single as she opened up about the end of her 12-year relationship with entrepreneur George, 47, and insisted she is excited about what comes next.
‘Now I’m feeling like maybe it’s even more in my second act now, being 54, because I’m single,’ Lisa said on Ateh Jewel’s Second Act podcast on Monday.
‘I’m feeling strong. I’m feeling happy. I’m feeling excited about what the future is.’
Asked whether it had been difficult to end a relationship at 54, Lisa replied: ‘Age didn’t come into it at all. I think it was more people change. We both changed. You grow apart. That’s what happened.’
Lisa added: ‘It was like over ten years together. And there were some great times. And I refuse to look back at it all being like really negative.
‘It’s just like, people change and now what’s going to be my future, you know? It’s just quite exciting.’
The confirmation comes after months of speculation about the couple’s relationship, with Lisa previously being seen without her engagement ring and George disappearing from her social media.
The pair rekindled their romance in 2014 after having briefly dated years earlier, originally meeting through MTV.
George proposed just before Christmas 2016 and Lisa announced their engagement the following month, describing him at the time as ‘selfless, honest, kind, wise, calm and thoughtful’.
Lisa previously admitted she had some reservations about tying the knot, saying last year that part of her worried marriage could change a relationship which was already working.
Now single, Lisa said she believes people can stay in relationships because leaving means confronting the uncertainty of a completely different life.
She said: ‘Communication is key. You know, you’ve got to communicate with each other. And you’ve got to be honest with yourself as well: does this feel right anymore?’
She continued: ‘A lot of people want to stay in because it’s more comfortable. You don’t want to rock the boat.
‘You don’t know what else is out there. You don’t know what life looks like. It’s a whole reshift. It’s a whole complete change.’
She added: ‘But, you know, if it’s not right anymore it’s not right anymore. And you just can’t stay in a relationship that isn’t right.’
Lisa, who previously dated Hollywood star George Clooney on and off for five years between 2000 and 2005, said she is not rushing to find another partner and has instead been enjoying travelling alone following the split.
She recently travelled to Bali for a wellness retreat before heading to Sri Lanka to meet a friend, and said the experience left her thinking about what she wants from the next stage of her life.
She said: ‘I just feel like I just want to have an adventure by myself. Like I’ve just come back from solo travel. What do I want? What do I need? Where do I want to go?’
The former Capital Breakfast presenter said she is ‘really comfortable’ in her own company and is not actively searching for a new relationship.
Recalling a moment during her trip, she said: ‘I was like, “Oh, I’m having a romantic moment to myself”, and it was really special. And I thought, don’t need anyone.
‘I’ve always been super independent. I mean, you know, if somebody comes into my life, then I’m open to it. But I’m not actively searching right now.’
She added: ‘I just want to do things. I want to see my girls. I want to see my family. I want to travel. I want to learn some new things.’
Lisa also revealed the breakup has not made her regret not having children with George.
Discussing having made peace with not becoming a mother, she said somebody had asked whether the end of the relationship made her reconsider the path they had taken together.
She said: ‘They were like, “Oh, you know, you didn’t go down that route with George. Are you thinking about now regretting?” I was like, no, I just think like, just move on, move forward.
‘Life’s too short. It’s going too fast. I want to live in the moment, in the now, and just keep focused.’
