Where Is The Funding Mobilisation Strategy And What Happened To The Original Financing Plan?โ€”PK

According to a Post on PK Sarpong official facebook account on Sunday, November 8,2026,Ghanaian social commentator P.K. Sarpong has criticised the John Dramani Mahama-led government over what he describes as inconsistencies in the funding commitments for its flagship 24-Hour Economy programme, questioning the whereabouts of the resources originally promised to finance the initiative.

In a Facebook post shared under his regular commentary series, Whispers from the Corridors of the Thinking Place, P.K. Sarpong referenced a post by Dr George Domfe, saying the concerns raised by the latter reflected his own thinking about the government’s financial commitments to the programme.

According to P.K. Sarpong, the Mahama administration initially projected US$4 billion over four years to finance the 24-Hour Economy initiative. However, he questioned the apparent gap between that commitment and the allocations reportedly made available in subsequent budgetary arrangements.

He cited reports indicating that only US$300 million was provided in 2025, while GHยข110 million was allocated in 2026. He further expressed concern about the absence of clear information regarding how much of the amounts had actually been released, disbursed and utilised.

Using the figures cited in the post, P.K. Sarpong argued that the government had accounted for barely 7.75 per cent of its original US$4 billion financing commitment, leaving questions about the remaining 92.25 per cent.

He consequently demanded explanations from the government regarding what had happened to the outstanding funds, the status of the original resource mobilisation strategy and whether the initial financing arrangement had been abandoned.

The commentator also expressed surprise over discussions about mobilising a fresh US$10 billion for a new 24-Hour Economy initiative, arguing that the government should first account for its earlier financial commitment before introducing another billion-dollar target.
