We Are Investing KSh500 Million to Connect 6,840 Homes to Power – William Ruto
President William Ruto has announced a major electricity connectivity investment in Nyamira County, revealing that the government is spending KSh500 million to connect 6,840 households to the national electricity grid.
The announcement highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to electricity, particularly in communities where some households have remained without reliable power connections. The investment is expected to benefit families across different parts of Nyamira County by bringing electricity closer to homes and supporting economic activities.
In West Mugirango Constituency, President Ruto disclosed that 1,700 households are being connected to electricity through a project valued at KSh100 million. The initiative is part of the wider Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme, which seeks to extend electricity infrastructure to more households.
The President made the announcement while launching the West Mugirango Constituency Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project at Makairo Market.
During the launch, he revealed that 90 households around Makairo Market would be connected to electricity under the initiative. The project is expected to improve access to power for residents and create opportunities for businesses operating within the market and surrounding communities.
Access to electricity remains an important factor in improving livelihoods, particularly in rural communities. For households, reliable power can make everyday activities easier, while traders and small-scale entrepreneurs can use electricity to improve their operations, extend working hours and explore new business opportunities.
The KSh500 million investment in Nyamira County therefore represents an important development for residents awaiting electricity connections. The allocation for West Mugirango also demonstrates the government’s plan to extend the programme to individual constituencies.
However, residents will be keen to see the projects completed and the promised connections delivered to the targeted households. Successful implementation will determine how quickly beneficiaries begin enjoying the advantages of electricity in their homes and businesses.
President Ruto’s announcement has placed electricity access back in the spotlight as the government continues pursuing infrastructure development across the country.
