Turaki vows PDP will participate in 2027 elections despite leadership crisis.

The National Chairman of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, has vowed that the party will overcome its current leadership crisis and participate in the 2027 general elections despite the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal.

Turaki insisted that former President Goodluck Jonathan, whom his group has nominated as its presidential candidate, and other candidates for the National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections would be on the ballot.

He spoke at a meeting with a delegation of governorship candidates nominated by his group, where he said the faction remained determined to defend its position through available legal channels.

Crude oil prices remained below $100 per barrel on Sunday.

A DAILY POST market survey showed that Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate, WTI, crude stood at $98.32 and $90.83 per barrel, respectively, at the time of filing this report.

Although crude oil prices recorded slight gains, they had remained firmly below $100 per barrel following the US midterm elections.

Prominent Kano-based human rights lawyer Abba Hikima has criticised Vice President Kashim Shettima over his dancing and celebratory displays at the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign rallies, saying such conduct is insensitive to the hardships confronting Nigerians.

Hikima, in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, called on the Vice President’s handlers to advise him to stop what he described as “embarrassing public dancing and celebratory displays at campaign rallies.”

“No responsible Nigerian leader should be seen dancing and celebrating after failing to secure the lives of the very people he swore to protect,” the lawyer wrote.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified surveillance around places of worship in Abuja following religious activities, with Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi inspecting deployments at churches across the territory.

Sanusi, who led the inspection on Sunday, assessed the operational readiness of officers deployed to churches to protect worshippers and other residents.

The exercise followed a similar inspection of mosques across the FCT on Friday, as part of the command’s efforts to strengthen security around religious centres and prevent criminal activity during and after worship services.

During the inspection, the police commissioner charged officers to remain vigilant, professional and responsive to security challenges while carrying out their duties.
