Tlangi Mogale and Aaron Maluleka Lose Tshwane Council Seats After ANC Election Defeat
Tshwane MMC for Roads and Transport, Tlangi Mogale, has lost her seat in the city council following the 2026 Local Government Elections, in another setback for the African National Congress (ANC).
Her fellow ANC councillor and MMC for Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka, has also failed to secure a return to the council after the party’s disappointing electoral performance in the municipality.
According to the reported election results, the ANC secured 44 council seats, comprising 43 ward seats and just one proportional representation (PR) seat.
The party’s PR list placed Eugene Modise in first position, followed by Mogale in second place and Maluleka in third.
However, with the ANC securing only one PR seat, Modise is the only candidate among the three who qualifies for a position through the party’s proportional representation allocation. Consequently, Mogale and Maluleka will not return to the council through the PR list.
The outcome reflects the challenges facing the ANC in Tshwane, where it finished third in the election, behind the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA.
The results represent a significant political setback for the two outgoing MMCs, who previously held senior positions in the city’s administration.
