Reactions Trail Momodu’s Comment After Oyo Gov Begged Tinubu Not to Destroy Country Over Atiku’s Case
According to a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, November 7, 2026, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has reacted to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him not to undermine Nigeria’s institutions or weaken the country’s democratic system.
Momodu’s reaction followed a video circulating on social media in which Makinde appealed directly to the President to protect democratic institutions and allow opposition parties to operate without unnecessary interference.
In the video, the Oyo State governor expressed concern over developments affecting Nigeria’s political environment and urged Tinubu to consider the long-term interests of the country rather than political differences.
Makinde reminded the President that political administrations are temporary, while Nigeria as a nation must continue to exist beyond the tenure of any individual leader.
“I want to appeal to President Bola Tinubu. Governments will come and go but our country will remain. Please, do not destroy our institutions, be it the judiciary or INEC. Stop trying to shut out the opposition”.
The governor’s remarks came amid ongoing political disagreements involving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties, particularly the African Democratic Congress.
The development also coincided with reports of a court decision concerning the ADC’s internal leadership and presidential candidacy, which has generated further political discussions.
Reacting to Makinde’s appeal, Momodu expressed doubt that the President would accept the governor’s advice without stronger political pressure from the opposition.
The ADC chieftain suggested that individuals within Tinubu’s political circle were encouraging him to maintain his current approach towards opposition figures.
“I assure sir, he won’t listen unless he’s confronted. He has the hawks goading him on”.
Following the publication of Momodu’s reaction, several social media users shared their opinions, with discussions focusing on Makinde’s warning, the President’s relationship with opposition parties and the importance of protecting democratic institutions.
The exchange has added to the ongoing political debate over opposition participation, the independence of Nigeria’s institutions and the responsibilities of political leaders in maintaining democratic stability.
However, Momodu’s statement represents his personal assessment of the President’s willingness to respond to Makinde’s appeal.
