Obra show: Woman seeks divorce, custody of daughter and compensation from husband

Elizabeth Annan has appealed for justice, demanding custody of her 13-year-old daughter, compensation for years of separation, and the dissolution of her marriage to DSP Emmanuel Osei, whom she accuses of abandoning her and engaging in relationships with other women.

Appearing on the Obra Show, aired on Nhyira 104.5 FM and Adom TV and hosted by Ohemaa Benewaa, Elizabeth recounted how she met DSP Osei while working as a receptionist at a hostel in Bogoso at the age of 21.

According to her, Osei lodged at the facility and expressed interest in marrying her but allegedly sexually assaulted her on the first night of his stay.

Three weeks later, Elizabeth discovered she was pregnant and informed him. She claims Osei subsequently visited her with his father to perform traditional marriage rites before taking her to Accra.

However, while she was in the Central Region to deliver their child, Elizabeth allegedly discovered that Osei was involved with another woman. She later returned to Accra with their daughter but eventually left the relationship and raised the child on her own.

Elizabeth explained that when their daughter was about five or six years old, she sent her to stay with Osei’s mother for a year while preparing to rewrite her WASSCE examinations.

However, she alleges that Osei later took the child from his mother’s care without informing her.

Elizabeth claims she has not seen her daughter for the past seven years despite several attempts to reunite with her.

Responding to the allegations, DSP Osei maintained that he took custody of the child in 2022 to personally cater for her, citing what he described as Elizabeth’s frequent demands and claims that the child was constantly falling sick.

He insisted that Elizabeth is free to visit their daughter but would not be allowed to stay overnight at his residence.

DSP Osei further stated that he would not surrender custody of the child unless a competent court of jurisdiction orders him to do so.

Elizabeth, who says she has been living separately from her husband despite their marriage, also wants the marriage dissolved, alleging that Osei has been involved with several other women.

She is therefore demanding the dissolution of the marriage, custody of their 13-year-old daughter, and compensation for the years of separation and emotional distress.
