Nurse In Trouble Over TikTok Live
A Ghanaian nurse is facing possible disciplinary action after allegedly livestreaming a distressed pregnant woman on TikTok while she was receiving care at a hospital.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage on social media, has raised serious concerns about patient privacy, professional ethics and the responsible use of social media by healthcare workers.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is expected to invite the nurse for questioning next week following the controversial broadcast.
The Ministry of Health’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Goodman, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Friday, November 6, 2026, saying the Council had begun following up on the matter.
“The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is following up on the matter concerning this nurse. I am reliably informed that she is expected to be invited by the Council next week for further engagement,” he stated.
The controversy came to light after a Facebook user, Dickson Assan, reported the incident to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), saying he came across the TikTok livestream in the early hours of the day and was disturbed by its content.
According to Assan, the livestream showed a pregnant woman who appeared to be in severe distress while receiving medical attention at a health facility.
He alleged that the person hosting the livestream, who appeared to be a nurse, was seen rubbing the woman’s back in an attempt to comfort her, while simultaneously broadcasting the moment to a TikTok audience.
Assan further claimed that some viewers made inappropriate comments and mocked the situation during the broadcast.
He also alleged that the nurse displayed a Mobile Money (MoMo) number during the livestream and appealed to viewers for financial contributions while the pregnant woman remained in distress.
Many social media users have questioned why a healthcare professional would broadcast a patient’s vulnerable moment online, particularly in a hospital setting where confidentiality and dignity are expected to be upheld.
The NMC has previously warned nurses and midwives against unprofessional behaviour on social media, stating that such conduct breaches the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Neither the Ministry of Health nor the NMC has named the nurse or the facility involved, and no conclusion has been reached on the allegations.
The Council’s engagement next week is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the livestream and determine the appropriate action.
