NDC congratulates Flamingos on U-17 Women’s World Cup title

The NDC National Campaign Council on Saturday congratulated Nigeria’s Flamingos after the youth team won the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, calling the victory over Japan a “historic” achievement. Nigeria defeated Japan 2-1 in the final in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday. The win made the Flamingos world champions for the first time. They are the first African nation to win the tournament. In a statement signed by spokesperson Dr Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, the council praised the players’ “courage, determination, resilience and the never-say-die spirit that defines our country”. “Beating Japan is no small feat,” the statement said. “You have made Nigeria proud and reminded us once again of the immense talent and potential in our young people, including women. The future is bright, and it belongs to you.” Tinubu hails Flamingos for making history as first African champions of FIFA U-17 Women’s World CupFIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria shocks Japan to win title2026 U-17 WWC: Flamingos beat Japan 2-1 to win historic World Cup title The council added that the party “supports youth in Nigeria”, and closed with a message to the team: “Well done, girls!” Nigeria reached the final by beating Brazil 3-1 in the semi-finals on November 4.
