Naturena Sends Strong Message: Vilakazi, Shabalala And Duba Lead Chiefs Attack Against Siwelele

Naturena: Da Cruz names Chiefs XI as Duba leads attack against Siwelele

Kaizer Chiefs have announced their starting XI for Sunday’s crucial Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final encounter against Siwelele FC, with head coach Fernando Da Cruz making several important selection decisions as Amakhosi target a place in the semi-finals.

The Glamour Boys will be looking to put their disappointing Soweto Derby defeat behind them when they take to the field at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Brandon Petersen has been selected to start between the posts, continuing his importance to the team’s defensive structure. The experienced goalkeeper will be expected to provide leadership and stability as Chiefs look to secure a positive result.

In defence, Dillan Solomons, Rushwin Dortley, Thabo Moloisane and Paseka Mako have been selected to form the backline.

One of the biggest talking points is the inclusion of Dortley, who has been working towards regaining his place after spending an extended period on the sidelines through injury. His presence offers Chiefs another defensive option following Inacio Miguel’s suspension.

Moloisane will be expected to provide defensive organisation alongside Dortley, while Solomons and Mako will have responsibilities on the flanks.

In midfield, Da Cruz has opted for a combination of Lebohang Maboe, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Mfundo Vilakazi.

Maboe’s experience and ability to connect different areas of the pitch could prove valuable, while Mthethwa will be expected to provide protection in front of the defence.

Vilakazi’s inclusion also adds creativity and attacking energy to the midfield, particularly when Chiefs look to move forward quickly.

Further up the pitch, Mduduzi Shabalala and Pule Mmodi will be expected to provide attacking support, with Wandile Duba leading the line.

Duba enters the encounter with considerable attention following his impressive hat-trick against TS Galaxy in the previous round of the competition. His goalscoring performance played a major role in helping Amakhosi secure a convincing 3-0 victory and advance to the quarter-finals.

Shabalala will also be an important player to watch, given his ability to create opportunities and operate between the opposition’s midfield and defensive lines.

Meanwhile, Mmodi’s pace and direct approach could provide another attacking threat for the Soweto giants.

The encounter carries enormous importance for Da Cruz, whose team will be eager to respond positively after losing 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Chiefs are also chasing their first major domestic cup triumph since lifting the Nedbank Cup in 2013, making progression in this competition particularly important.

Siwelele, however, will not make things easy. The Free State outfit will be motivated by the opportunity to eliminate one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs and reach the semi-finals.

With a place in the last four at stake, Chiefs must demonstrate discipline, concentration and attacking efficiency.

For Amakhosi supporters, the biggest expectation will be seeing their team deliver a convincing performance and take another step towards ending their trophy drought.
