Mussa Dankwah React After Okatakyie Afrifa Says Mahama Want to Destroy Ashanti Region’s Economic Hub
The CEO of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has called for a referendum to decide whether the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway should go ahead.
Mr. Dankwah made the call in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, November 8, 2026. He was reacting to comments by Okatakyie Afrifa about the project.
On November 7, 2026, Okatakyie Afrifa claimed that President John Mahama and his government want to destroy the economic hub of the Ashanti Region. According to him, the government plans to do this by diverting commercial roads away from Kumasi. His comments were reported by Dunkwa TV+.
In his reaction, Mr. Dankwah suggested that the people of the Ashanti Region should be the ones to decide the fate of the expressway. “Maybe, we need a referendum for the Ashanti region people to decide if the Expressway should go ahead,” he wrote.
He said the matter must be settled once and for all. He also addressed Dr. Frank Amoakohene directly in his post, urging him to help bring the debate to a close. He added that he personally supports a referendum.
The Accra-Kumasi Expressway has become a subject of debate in recent times. Supporters say it will reduce travel time, ease traffic, and boost trade between the two major cities. Critics, however, fear that it may take business away from towns and communities along the existing road, especially Kumasi.
Mr. Dankwah’s suggestion has added a new angle to the discussion. A referendum would give residents of the Ashanti Region a direct say in a project that could change the way people and goods move across the country.
It is not yet clear whether the government or other stakeholders will respond to the proposal. However, the call has already drawn attention on social media, where many users are sharing their views on the matter.
As the debate continues, many Ghanaians are waiting to see how the government will address the concerns raised about the project and its possible effect on the Ashanti Region’s economy.
