Murkomen Hints at Man United vs Arsenal Friendly in Nairobi in 2027, Details

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has hinted that English Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal could face off in a high-profile friendly match in Nairobi in July 2027.

Speaking during a church service in Ikolomani, Kakamega County, on Sunday, November 8, Murkomen said President William Ruto was planning to bring the two English clubs to Kenya next year.

“Next year the president will bring Arsenal and Manchester United to play in Nairobi in July 2027,” Murkomen stated.

The proposed fixture could take place shortly before the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

If confirmed, the encounter would provide Kenyan football fans with an opportunity to watch two of the most popular English clubs compete on local soil.

Murkomen’s announcement comes as the government prepares to host German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch side AFC Ajax for a friendly match scheduled for January 5, 2027.

The encounter will officially inaugurate the 60,000-capacity Raila Odinga International Stadium, which is nearing completion.

The Interior CS disclosed that the upcoming Bayern-Ajax fixture had already attracted international interest, with approximately 5,000 European supporters expected to travel to Kenya.

He also revealed that football enthusiasts from Nigeria and Egypt were among those planning to attend the match.

Tickets for the January encounter are expected to start at Ksh2,500, while organisers are preparing a 12-hour entertainment festival featuring international performers and activities showcasing Kenyan culture.

Both Bayern Munich and Ajax have reportedly committed to bringing their strongest available squads, with the fixture expected to feature senior first-team players rather than legends or academy teams.

President Ruto had previously expressed interest in bringing Manchester United and Arsenal to Kenya, although no official confirmation or detailed arrangements for the proposed July 2027 match have been announced.

Murkomen’s latest remarks have renewed anticipation among supporters, particularly given the enormous following both clubs enjoy across the country.
