“Matiang’i Has Never Been Elected an MCA” Gachagua Says as He Champions Matiangi for Presidency

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken a swipe at former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, questioning his political experience and ability to lead the country.

Gachagua argued that Matiang’i has never held an elective political position, pointing out that he has not even been elected as a Member of the County Assembly (MCA). “Matiang’i has never even been elected an MCA,” Gachagua said.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments within the opposition as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Matiang’i, who previously served in several Cabinet positions under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has emerged as one of the figures associated with the opposition’s efforts to challenge President William Ruto.

Gachagua’s comments appear to question Matiang’i’s grassroots political experience at a time when competition for influence and leadership within the opposition continues to intensify.
