Martin Kpebu Reveals Why He Will Never Accept an Appointment From Mahama
Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has explained his decision to remain politically independent, arguing that accepting an appointment from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) could compromise his credibility as an advocate for the public interest.
Kpebu clarified that his support for the NDC on certain issues should not be interpreted as an indication of his membership or allegiance to the party.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on November 7, 2026, the lawyer explained that maintaining his independence was necessary to enable him to consistently scrutinise political developments and hold those in power accountable.
“For consistency, I have to decline everything and keep the fight. So I spoke for NDC to come but it doesn’t mean I’m NDC. There’s no way I can be NDC,” he said.
Kpebu, who was called to the Bar on October 5, 2007, also highlighted his ability to sustain his legal career without affiliating himself with any political party.
He noted that his 19 years in the legal profession had demonstrated that professional success did not depend on political connections, stressing the importance of integrity and the freedom to express independent views.
The private legal practitioner further argued that Ghana’s democratic development requires individuals who are willing to remain politically neutral and scrutinise successiv governments, irrespective of their political affiliations.
He maintained that not every citizen should be aligned with a political party, as independent voices play an important role in promoting accountability and ensuring that those in government are held responsible for their actions.
