Mariga’s Camp Vows Legal Action After Being Locked Out of FKF Meeting

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice president McDonald Mariga and six allied officials have vowed to seek legal guidance after being denied entry to a Special General Meeting in Meru on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

The officials had travelled to the venue expecting to respond to allegations of constitutional violations and defend themselves against disciplinary action. However, police officers, including members of the Rapid Deployment Unit, blocked them from accessing the meeting chaired by FKF president Hussein Mohammed.

The standoff outside the hotel reportedly involved tear gas, with the locked-out group accusing unidentified individuals of surrounding them. Suspended Nairobi representative Daniel Shikanda questioned why he had been summoned to the meeting but was denied an opportunity to defend himself.

The faction also disputed the legitimacy of the vote that led to their expulsion. While 65 delegates reportedly supported the motion inside the venue, the excluded officials claimed they had the backing of 56 legitimate delegates.

Vincent Nyasani, who identified himself as the designated chairman of the FKF Congress, criticised the exclusion, arguing that club and branch representatives had been prevented from participating in decisions affecting the federation.

After the meeting, the group said it would review the FKF constitution and consult legal advisers before deciding on its next steps. They maintained that every official facing disciplinary action deserved a fair hearing.

The confrontation has added another chapter to the leadership disputes troubling Kenyan football. The expelled officials’ planned legal consultations could determine whether the decisions reached in Meru face a formal challenge.
