Mahama Condemns Media Over Constant Empanelling of Politicians on Technical Issues
President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has complained bitterly about the empanelling of politicians on radio and television to talk about issues they have no technical knowledge of.
He says it is worrying that instead of seeking knowledge from people who have the technical know-how, politicians are brought in to address every issue in the country.
The president says although it is entertaining, it does not help the country grow and does not provide any form of education.
“Our morning live shows where representatives of political parties are invited to discuss topics ranging from animal science to nuclear power might be entertaining but not really helpful in educating the public,” he said in his speech at the 29th GJA Awards.
The President urged editors to widen their net and not be limited to just politics because it is the most salacious and sensational source of news.
“Politics is the most salacious and sensational source of news. Editors must look beyond daily political exchanges and focus on issues that affect the daily lives of our people,” he stated.
