Lawyer William Kusi, Ken Agyapong’s campaign communications head, dies at 56

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Lawyer William Kusi, a prominent supporter of former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, has died at the age of 56.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, confirmed the news in a Facebook post on Saturday, November 7, 2026. No cause of death has been disclosed.

Kusi was a familiar face in political circles across the Ashanti Region, where he campaigned actively for Mr Agyapong during the NPP’s internal contests. He served as head of communications for the Agyapong campaign team and was frequently seen defending the former MP on various platforms. Many within the party regarded him as one of Mr Agyapong’s most loyal voices in the region.

Away from partisan politics, Kusi also earned national attention through his work in one of the country’s most closely followed legal disputes, the case over the estate and widowhood rights of the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu.

Practising with Dominion Chambers, he was lead counsel for Akosua Serwaa at the Kumasi High Court. He filed the suit on her behalf, asking the court to declare her the only surviving lawful spouse of the musician. His argument was that her marriage to Daddy Lumba, contracted under German law on December 23, 2004, was monogamous and remained valid until the musician’s death on July 26, 2025.

The case challenged the recognition of Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as another lawful spouse. It also drew in the head of the Fosu family, Kofi Owusu Fosu, with the parties contesting who should perform the widowhood rites and who should control the funeral arrangements.

In November 2025, the Kumasi High Court, presided over by Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, ruled that both Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni were valid spouses of the late musician. The ruling marked a major turning point in a dispute that held considerable public attention.
