Kisumu Graduate Visits Late Father’s Grave After Earning Degree He Never Lived to Celebrate
A young woman from Kisumu has touched hearts after visiting her late father’s grave to mark an important academic milestone he never lived to witness.
Leticia Achieng recently graduated with a Bachelor of International Tourism Management from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST).
Following the achievement, Leticia visited her father’s grave, accompanied by her mother, in a deeply emotional moment dedicated to honouring the man who did not get the chance to see his daughter graduate.
The visit offered her an opportunity to recognise her father’s place in her life and share, in her own way, a milestone she had hoped he would one day celebrate with her.
Behind the academic achievement is a journey marked by challenges and determination.
According to the report, Leticia encountered difficult circumstances during her education, particularly in high school, when various challenges threatened to derail her academic ambitions.
Despite the setbacks, she continued pursuing her dream of obtaining a university education.
Her graduation is also significant because she is reportedly the only person in her household to have attained a university degree.
The achievement therefore represents more than an individual academic success. It is a major milestone for her family, which has witnessed her efforts and perseverance throughout her education.
Leticia’s mother accompanied her during the visit to her late father’s gravesite.
Having been part of her daughter’s journey, her presence made the occasion particularly meaningful as they took time to honour the family member who was absent from the graduation celebration.
Although her father was not physically present to witness the achievement, the visit allowed Leticia to remember him as she marked the completion of her university studies.
Beyond academics, Leticia has an interest in sports, particularly field hockey.
She plays for Kisumu Lakers Hockey Club B, which competes in the women’s league. She is currently based in Kisumu and continues to pursue interests outside her academic life.
Her story highlights the determination behind her journey to graduation and the personal significance of reaching a milestone that her late father never got to witness.
