Kennedy Agyapong’s Campaign Team Hit by Tragedy as Top Lawyer William Kusi Dies at 56

Lawyer William Kusi, a prominent supporter of former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, has died at the age of 56.

His death was announced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, in a Facebook post on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Kusi was a familiar figure in the political landscape of the Ashanti Region, where he played an active role in supporting Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s internal political campaigns.

He served as the head of communications for Agyapong’s campaign team and was widely recognised for his consistent defence of the former MP on various media platforms.

Outside his political activities, Kusi also attracted national attention through his involvement in the high-profile legal dispute over the estate and widowhood rights of late highlife musician Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu.

He represented Akosua Serwaa as lead counsel in the case before the Kumasi High Court, where she challenged the recognition of Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as a lawful spouse of the late musician.

Operating under Dominion Chambers, Kusi initiated legal proceedings on behalf of Akosua Serwaa, seeking a court declaration recognising her as Daddy Lumba’s only surviving lawful spouse.

His legal argument centred on the marriage between Akosua Serwaa and the musician, which was contracted under German law on December 23, 2004.

He maintained that the union was monogamous and remained legally valid until Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025.

The dispute also involved Kofi Owusu Fosu, head of the Fosu family, with the parties contesting matters relating to the performance of widowhood rites and arrangements for the musician’s funeral.

In November 2025, the Kumasi High Court, presided over by Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, delivered a ruling recognising both Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni as lawful spouses of the late musician.
