How Pastor Adeboye Ordered the Return of Billions Linked to RCCG Within 24 Hours — EFCC Boss

According to a report by The Vanguard on Saturday, November 8, 2026, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), received tremendous praise for his unwavering moral character when he demanded the prompt return of billions of naira that had been embezzled from church projects by a person facing financial crime charges.

While speaking to thousands of church workers and ministers at a special engagement themed “Ethical Standard and Corruption in Christian Community” at the Redemption City of God in Simawa, Ogun State, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, made the shocking revelation.

The anti-graft agency had discovered tens of billions of naira linked to an individual under investigation, with some of that money ending up in the coffers of the RCCG project, according to the head of the EFCC.

Olukoyede showed great leadership by personally briefing Pastor Adeboye on the results, which clearly enraged the respected pastor.

In describing the intense meeting, Olukoyede said: “The expression on Daddy’s face was as if I was nearly blaming myself for bringing it up with him. Someone could tell that Daddy was furious. “I am going to give you 24 hours,” he told a couple of pastors he contacted.

Please return to RCCG within the next 24 hours all items that were traced to this indicted individual. The funds ended up back in the government’s coffers. That is the reputation that RCCG has earned.

Churches must never become guardians or defenders of the proceeds of crime, Olukoyede said, drawing a contrast between Pastor Adeboye’s zero-tolerance attitude for ill-gotten wealth and instances where other religious institutions tried to justify funds linked to dubious investment schemes.

One of the most painful experiences of the anti-graft chairman’s career was approving the detention of a senior RCCG pastor on charges of financial infractions that allegedly occurred in his secular workplace.

Being a senior minister in the church, Olukoyede emphasized that there must be accountability beyond spiritual titles and that sins committed outside of church have a direct bearing on the Christian community’s credibility.

Moving on to the topic of pulpit ethics, Olukoyede firmly warned that religious gatherings were becoming dangerous places to idolize “money bags” and encourage a culture of materialism and covetousness.

He warned religious leaders against corrupting the next generation by favoring those whose riches are associated with fraud or by giving them front-row seats at religious events.

Both the giver and the receiver of bribes are criminally culpable, the EFCC leader added, denouncing the unhealthy practice of financial inducements, bribery, and unhealthy competition surrounding church leadership promotions and ordinations.

At the end of his moving speech, Olukoyede urged Christians and church leaders to be the epitome of morality, saying that the only place for public moral transformation is inside churches and other houses of worship.
