Ghanaians Wish Sista Afia Well As She Celebrates Her Birthday In Style

According to a report by UTV Ghana today being Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has announced a GH¢1,000 Christmas package for traders who comply with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) directive on designated trading areas.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging traders to observe the Assembly’s red-line policy while supporting their welfare ahead of the Christmas festivities. Under the arrangement, traders who conduct their businesses within approved trading locations and stay away from restricted areas will qualify for the financial package.

The announcement forms part of the AMA’s broader efforts to address the persistent problem of congestion in the capital, particularly during the festive season when commercial activities and human movement usually increase significantly.

The Assembly has consistently raised concerns about traders occupying unauthorised spaces, especially along major roads, pavements and other areas meant for pedestrian and vehicular movement. Such activities often contribute to traffic congestion, obstruct pedestrians and create difficulties for motorists navigating busy parts of Accra.

By introducing the GH¢1,000 Christmas package, the Mayor hopes to motivate traders to support the Assembly’s efforts to maintain order and improve trading conditions across the city.

The red-line directive is intended to ensure that commercial activities take place only in designated locations, allowing roads and other public spaces to remain accessible to their intended users.

The financial incentive is also expected to encourage cooperation between traders and city authorities rather than relying solely on enforcement measures.

With Christmas approaching, the AMA is intensifying its efforts to improve sanitation, reduce congestion and ensure smoother movement within the capital.

The initiative therefore represents an attempt to combine public discipline with financial support for traders during the festive period.
