Ghana targets 2027 U-23 AFCON Qualification

The winner of the two-legged encounter will progress to the next stage of the qualifiers, where they will meet either Equatorial Guinea or Niger for a place in the 2027 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana have been handed a bye in the opening round of the three-stage qualifying competition and will enter the campaign in the second round.

Seven nations are expected to join hosts Egypt at the tournament, which will feature eight teams competing for the continental title.

The qualification campaign also presents Ghana with an opportunity to revive their ambitions of returning to men’s football at the Olympic Games after more than two decades away.

The Black Meteors last represented the country at the Olympics during the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece.

Securing qualification for the 2027 U-23 AFCON would therefore be an important step towards ending Ghana’s 23-year absence from Olympic men’s football and bringing the country closer to another appearance on the global stage.
