Eastern Region Is No Longer NPP’s Stronghold – Awal Moro Predicts NDC Victory In 2028

According to a report by GHOne TV on November 8, 2026, Awal Moro, an aspirant for the position of NDC Eastern Regional Vice Chairman, has expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will take control of the Eastern Region in the 2028 general elections.

Moro made the declaration while discussing the changing political dynamics in the region, which has traditionally been regarded as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). His remarks suggest that he believes the political influence of the NPP in the Eastern Region is declining.

He maintained that the NDC is positioning itself to make significant electoral gains in the region during the next general elections. His prediction reflects the party’s ambition to expand its political support beyond areas where it has traditionally enjoyed considerable electoral strength.

The Eastern Region remains an important electoral battleground for both major political parties in Ghana. Its voting patterns have historically attracted considerable attention, particularly because of the NPP’s strong presence and the NDC’s efforts to improve its performance in the area.

Moro’s comments also highlight the importance of regional party organisation, grassroots mobilisation and effective engagement with voters ahead of the 2028 elections. For the NDC, securing more support in the Eastern Region could strengthen its national electoral position.

However, his prediction remains a political expectation rather than an established electoral outcome. The performance of both parties, their campaign strategies, candidate selection and ability to address voters’ concerns will be important factors in determining the region’s eventual voting pattern.

His declaration adds to the growing political conversation surrounding the 2028 general elections and the possibility of changes in the Eastern Region’s traditional voting patterns.
