Denzel Bentley triumphs over tenacious Shane Mosley Jr, issues challenge to Conor Benn for Battle of Britain showdown

November 8, 2026 sportnow DENZEL BENTLEY transitioned from almost delivering Amazon parcels to putting on a stellar show in his Zuffa Boxing debut against Shane Mosley Jr.

The 31-year-old British middleweight withstanded the American’s unyielding pressure to earn a unanimous points victory at the Copper Box Arena in London, with judges scoring the ten-round matchup 96-94, 96-93, and 95-94.

Immediately after the fight, Bentley set his sights on another major British clash by calling out Conor Benn, who was watching from ringside. This victory marked a strong start to his career under Dana White’s boxing promotion.

Upon entering the arena for his second fight of the year, Bentley received a rousing welcome from the home crowd.

Facing him was no easy task, as Mosley Jr, 35, son of boxing icon Sugar Shane Mosley, recently stopped the dangerous Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk in six rounds in May.

Nicknamed ‘2 Sharp’, Bentley proved his moniker true in the opening round, carefully maintaining a tight guard before landing a precise straight right hand on his advancing opponent.

In the second round, Bentley nearly brought the house down with a powerful one-two combination that left Mosley reeling.

Incredibly, Mosley managed to beat the count, but Bentley launched a relentless assault, landing shots as the American desperately tried to hold on.

Mosley displayed remarkable grit, continuing to push forward throughout the bout.

The American frequently forced Bentley against the ropes, aiming to disrupt his rhythm and hinder his attacks.

Unfortunately for Mosley, his chin became a target for Bentley’s right hand – the Londoner utilized his punches smartly, picking his spots to counter with precise combinations as a cut opened above Mosley’s right eyebrow.

Although Mosley found some success on the inside, particularly in the eighth round, Bentley showcased his adaptability by switching to southpaw and firing a double jab followed by a straight left.

His swift head movement allowed him to evade punches before countering with striking shots.

They briefly embraced at the start of the tenth round before returning to combat, with Mosley still relentless in his pursuit.

However, Bentley kept his composure, landing another stunning one-two and finishing the fight strongly to earn a well-deserved victory.

This win was a significant uplift for Bentley after being stripped of his WBO middleweight world title last month.

The boxing body declined his request to face Mosley instead of mandatory challenger Yoenli Hernandez, leading to his first fight under Zuffa being conducted without a world title at stake.

This setback came after a challenging 16-month hiatus from competition where Bentley sought work, even considering delivering Amazon parcels to support his family.

He ultimately secured a more profitable long-term agreement with Zuffa following his departure from Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, with rival promoter Eddie Hearn suggesting the switch would net him an additional £100,000 or £200,000, calling him a “plonker” for the move – Bentley responded that it was “a lot of money” for him.

A potential fight with Benn could bring in even more lucrative opportunities ahead for Bentley.
