Clearly, the Minority Knew the Individual Involved – Rexford Agyei on passport sales
According to an Official Facebook Post by Rexford Agyei on 8 November 2026, the NPP Minority in Parliament has been accused of deliberately shifting attention away from the alleged involvement of a former government appointee in the illegal sale of Ghanaian service passports.
Rexford Agyei made the allegations following a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming reports of irregularities involving the sale and issuance of service passports. He argued that although the Ministry’s statement had confirmed that illegal transactions allegedly occurred, the Minority had failed to disclose the political background of the individual he claims masterminded the operation.
According to Agyei, the individual at the centre of the alleged operation was appointed during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He therefore questioned why members of the NPP Minority were presenting the matter in a manner that appeared to implicate the current government without acknowledging the alleged historical connections.
He further claimed that some Ghanaians had previously petitioned the then Minister for Foreign Affairs under the NPP administration over similar allegations, but their concerns were not properly addressed.
Agyei also alleged that on 8 October 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received another petition raising concerns about the same passport irregularities.
He suggested that the renewed attention surrounding the matter prompted the NPP Minority to redirect the political narrative towards the current administration, despite what he described as the involvement of an individual appointed under their own government.
The Facebook commentator also praised the response of the current Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, arguing that he acted decisively after receiving the petition and accompanying complaint.
According to Agyei, the minister ordered the interdiction of the individuals implicated and referred the matter to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.
He maintained that the response demonstrated the importance of taking allegations of corruption seriously rather than allowing complaints to remain unattended.
Beyond the immediate controversy, Agyei called on the NDC government to undertake a broader cleanup of the passport administration system, insisting that anyone found to have compromised the integrity of public office must be held accountable, irrespective of political affiliation.
He concluded with a serious allegation that the NPP deliberately planted individuals within public institutions to create scandals and undermine the credibility of subsequent administrations.
However, the claims regarding the alleged mastermind, previous petitions and political motivations require independent verification. The identities and responsibilities of those involved must ultimately be established through documentary evidence and the ongoing investigations.
The controversy has therefore raised broader questions about accountability, institutional integrity and the responsibility of successive governments to address corruption allegations involving public officials.
