Chiefs Set for Defensive Changes Ahead of Siwelele Cup Clash

Kaizer Chiefs could make one or two changes to their defence when they take on Siwelele FC in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

The possible changes suggest that head coach Fernando da Cruz is considering different options in defence as Amakhosi prepare for an important match that could take them into the semi-finals of the competition.

One of the main reasons for the expected changes is the absence of Inácio Miguel, who is suspended after receiving a red card during Chiefs’ 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Miguel’s suspension leaves Da Cruz with the task of finding a suitable replacement in central defence, especially considering the important role the Angolan defender has played in the team’s backline.

Dortley Could Return to the Starting Line-up

Rushwin Dortley is among the players expected to have an opportunity to replace Miguel against Siwelele.

The 24-year-old defender is gradually returning to full fitness after spending a long period on the sidelines due to injury. He recently made his return against TS Galaxy in the previous round of the Carling Knockout Cup, where Chiefs recorded an impressive 3-0 victory.

Thabo Moloisane is also expected to keep his place in central defence and could partner Dortley for Sunday’s encounter.

At the full-back positions, Reeve Frosler and Paseka Mako could retain their places, although Da Cruz will make the final decision based on his preferred tactical approach.

Amakhosi will enter Sunday’s match hoping to recover from their Soweto Derby defeat and book their place in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals.

Chiefs reached the quarter-finals after beating TS Galaxy 3-0, with Wandile Duba scoring all three goals in an impressive performance.

However, Siwelele are expected to provide a difficult test as they look to eliminate one of the country’s biggest clubs and continue their journey in the competition.

The Free State side will also have to deal with the absence of left-back Aphiwe Baliti, who is suspended after receiving a red card in their previous-round match against Polokwane City.

The quarter-final clash will be played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, 8 November, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.

For Da Cruz, choosing the right defensive partnership will be crucial as Kaizer Chiefs look to overcome Siwelele and secure a place in the last four of the competition.
