AWA Breaks Silence After Reports of Aircraft Emergency at Kumasi Airport
Africa World Airlines (AWA) has dismissed social media reports claiming that one of its aircraft experienced a technical fault at Kumasi Airport, forcing passengers to be evacuated.
The airline described the circulating claims as misleading and maintained that no such incident occurred at the airport.
In a statement released on November 7, 2026, AWA identified the aircraft involved as its Embraer E190, which commenced demonstration flights on November 5, 2026.
The airline explained that the flights formed part of a mandatory regulatory process established by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The exercise is required before the aircraft can be cleared to operate scheduled commercial flights.
AWA further clarified that the demonstration flights were conducted exclusively with flight crew members and GCAA inspectors on board.
It emphasised that no passengers were carried during the exercise, dismissing claims that passengers had been evacuated following a technical malfunction.
The airline explained that demonstration flights are a routine procedure for introducing new aircraft types into commercial operations.
The process, conducted under the supervision of the GCAA, is intended to assess the aircraft’s operational readiness and ensure compliance with aviation safety requirements.
AWA has appealed to the public and media organisations to disregard the graphic circulating on social media and obtain accurate information about its operations through the airline’s official communication platforms.
It also cautioned that it could pursue appropriate action against individuals who deliberately circulate false information about its operations.
