10 reasons a woman should think twice before cooking and washing for a boyfriend she has not married
Cooking for someone and helping with household chores can be expressions of love and care. However, some women find themselves performing almost every domestic responsibility for boyfriends who have not made any commitment to building a home with them.
Here are 10 reasons a woman should be careful about taking on wife-like domestic responsibilities while dating.
1. You may assume responsibilities without an agreement. Being someone’s girlfriend does not automatically make you responsible for cooking, washing and keeping his home clean.
2. He may become too comfortable. If you handle every household chore, he may gradually stop making any effort to take care of himself.
3. You may create expectations that are difficult to change. Once a man becomes accustomed to receiving these services, he may expect them to continue even when you are tired or unavailable.
4. You may neglect your own priorities. Spending your free time cooking and cleaning for a boyfriend can take time away from your career, education, business and personal interests.
5. Domestic work may become one-sided. You may find yourself doing everything while he contributes little beyond paying for occasional dates or buying groceries.
6. You may confuse service with commitment. Doing everything for a man does not guarantee that he will eventually marry you.
7. He may fail to appreciate your effort. When someone receives constant help, they may begin treating it as an entitlement rather than a favour.
8. You may struggle to establish boundaries. Once you have accepted responsibility for his household, refusing to continue may lead to arguments or accusations that you have changed.
9. You may be preparing for a marriage that may never happen. A woman can spend years performing domestic duties for a boyfriend who has no definite plans to marry her.
10. You deserve a relationship based on mutual effort. Cooking and washing should not be treated as duties that automatically belong to the woman. Both partners should be willing to contribute to a shared living arrangement.
There is nothing wrong with a woman cooking for her boyfriend or helping him with laundry if she genuinely wants to. The concern is when these gestures become compulsory, one-sided responsibilities without mutual respect or a clear understanding of the relationship.
