When A Court Ruling Favours Them, They Will Say Judiciary Is Last Hope Of Common Man – Shehu Sani
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has criticised politicians for what he described as their inconsistent attitude towards the judiciary, saying political actors often praise the courts when judgments favour them but condemn them when decisions go against their interests.
Sani made the remark in a post on his X handle while reacting to the rejection of a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja by chieftains and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The judgment, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on Thursday, reportedly nullified the leadership of the ADC faction led by former Senate President, David Mark, and raised questions about the party’s planned presidential ticket involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general election.
Reacting to the controversy surrounding the ruling, Sani suggested that politicians tend to describe the judiciary differently depending on whether its decisions advance or undermine their political interests.
“When a Court ruling favours them, they will say that the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man. When a Court ruling is against them, they will say that the Judiciary is the renewed hope of the common man,” he wrote.
His comment came amid criticism of the judgment by some ADC leaders and supporters, with the party’s political camp reportedly considering legal options to challenge the decision.
The ruling has added to the political and legal uncertainty surrounding the ADC’s leadership as political parties and aspirants prepare for the 2027 general election.
