TY Danjuma Donates N250m for Expansion of Adamawa Government House Chapel at 20th Anniversary

Bamaiyi represented Danjuma at the event and delivered his remarks to the gathering. Danjuma commended the founders of the chapel and the anniversary organisers for their vision. He also praised their commitment and sustained contributions to the growth of the Adamawa Government House Chapel over twenty years.

The 20th anniversary celebration drew an impressive gathering of national and state leaders. Religious figures, government officials and members of the congregation all attended the event in Yola. Their presence underscored the deep significance of the chapel to the Christian community in Adamawa State.

Former Governor Boni Haruna revealed that the chapel was no afterthought. The original architectural design of the Government House complex always included it. Haruna said the design provided for two places of worship, a mosque and a chapel. This reflected the principles of equity and fairness in the original plan.

Haruna added that the construction of the chapel sought to address a historical imbalance. It also aimed to actualise the inclusive vision of the original Government House plan. Founders established the Adamawa Government House Chapel formally in 2005 to fulfil that original commitment.

Furthermore, Haruna hoped the chapel would remain a standing symbol of unity in Adamawa. He also said it should remind everyone that Adamawa belongs to all its residents. This applies irrespective of religious differences between communities.

Additionally, Haruna described the facility as proof of Adamawa’s foresight in governance. The founding generation built a state rooted in shared humanity and mutual respect across faith divides.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, used the anniversary to address the nation’s youth. She urged them to shun political violence and embrace peaceful conduct ahead of 2027. Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta represented Senator Tinubu at the event in Yola.

She advised young people against allowing politicians to exploit them for selfish interests. Moreover, she urged them to promote peace, tolerance and responsible participation in elections. These values, she said, matter most as Nigeria approaches another election cycle.

Senator Tinubu described the anniversary as more than twenty years of worship. She said it also celebrated twenty years of proof that Nigerians can choose shared humanity over division. The unifying spirit of the Adamawa Government House Chapel, she added, is the model Nigeria needs.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri sent a message to the anniversary gathering in Yola. He emphasised that the Adamawa Government House Chapel belongs to the entire body of Christ. It should not carry the identity of any particular Christian denomination. Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta delivered Fintiri’s message at the event.

The governor urged the chapel to serve as a unifying platform for all denominations in Adamawa State. He also called on members to sustain its spiritual activities and keep the fire on the altar burning.

In addition, Fintiri expressed hope that God’s presence would continue to guide his government. He also hoped it would inspire development and peaceful coexistence across Adamawa’s diverse communities. “Adamawa belongs to all of us,” he said. “We must join hands and live together as one another’s keepers.”

The Chair of the Board of Trustees, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr Boss Mustapha, described the anniversary as a celebration of faith. He added courage, perseverance, unity and God’s faithfulness to that description. Mustapha said the chapel’s journey began in adversity and continued through sustained prayer.

He added that divine providence eventually fulfilled what prayer had sustained. “Its location within the seat of government underscores the importance of prayer and moral responsibility in public leadership,” he said. Humility and service, he added, are equally essential qualities for those in power.

The former SGF urged the chapel’s leadership to preserve its ecumenical character. He also asked them to remain respectful of religious diversity and constitutional freedoms. The chapel’s strength, he said, lies in bringing Christians of all backgrounds together under one roof.

Danjuma also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Through Bamaiyi, he argued that the Tinubu administration had appointed more Christians into key government positions. He said those appointments contributed positively to the country’s development.

However, the statement added a political dimension to what was primarily a religious anniversary celebration. Danjuma recommended Tinubu over former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 general elections.

Organisers presented awards to notable figures who contributed to the chapel’s growth over twenty years. They honoured First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and the chapel’s founders. Past chaplains who served with distinction during the facility’s formative years also received awards.

Several prominent Nigerians also donated money at the event. Former SGF Boss Mustapha, former Adamawa Governor Boni Haruna and former Adamawa Governor Bala Nggilari all contributed. Senator Amos Yohana and Dr Edgar Amos also gave financial support to the chapel’s expansion.

TY Danjuma’s N250 million donation stood out as the largest single contribution of the day. Organisers expressed gratitude for his enduring commitment to Christian worship infrastructure in Adamawa State.

Since 2005, the Adamawa Government House Chapel has served as a spiritual home for generations of Christian civil servants and public officers. It is the only officially designated Christian worship centre within the state’s government complex. Its position within the seat of power makes it unique in the entire North East region of Nigeria.

Its ecumenical character allows Christians of different denominational backgrounds to worship together under one roof. Catholics, Anglicans and Pentecostals all gather there. Other evangelical groups also find a home in its walls. This embodies the kind of unity that Nigeria’s religious leaders frequently call for but rarely achieve in institutional form.

Furthermore, as the chapel begins the next phase of its development, anchored by TY Danjuma’s landmark donation, its leadership and congregation remain committed to serving as a beacon of faith and unity. They are equally committed to promoting responsible governance for generations to come in Adamawa State.

The 20th anniversary celebration in Yola was more than a religious milestone. It was also a statement about what becomes possible when institutions rest on foundations of inclusivity. The prayers of the faithful and the generosity of Nigerians who believe in faith-driven progress make all the difference.
