“Still Hungry”: Ouaddou Issues Strong Warning to Sekhukhune
November 7, 2026 sportnow Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expresses that his team remains “hungry” for additional triumphs as they gear up to defend their Carling Knockout Cup title in Saturday’s quarter-final matchup against Sekhukhune United at the Orlando Amstel Arena. The Pirates, who secured a domestic treble last season, including the Carling Knockout Cup, were unable to hold on to their MTN8 trophy after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns in the final in Durban this past October.
Their claim on the Carling Knockout will be challenged on Saturday, marking the fourth encounter between the two teams this season. Competing against the same opponent four times over three months with the primary aim of winning presents a distinctive challenge.
Previously, the two teams faced off in a two-legged MTN8 semi-final, which the Pirates won decisively, 4–0 on aggregate. In between those cup matches, the Buccaneers also triumphed in their first-round league game, achieving a 2–0 victory in Soweto.
Ouaddou, who took the reins at the beginning of last season and led the Soweto giants to three trophies, noted that he inherited a squad that is deeply invested in maintaining their winning legacy.
“I discovered a winning mentality; I found a club that aims to conquer everything,” remarked Ouaddou.
“This was the environment I encountered, and I have endeavored to maintain that standard with the players. Indeed, this cup holds significant importance for us, evident in the manner we approach the competition.
“The dedication of our players when participating in these matches is commendable; it’s a competition we do not take lightly.
“I sensed the hunger within the club, and we are still, as I can assure you, eager for more success.”
The 48-year-old Moroccan coach boasts an impressive track record while at the helm of Pirates, registering 47 wins, six losses, and nine draws across 62 matches in all competitions.
