Political Drama Unfolds In Limpopo: ANC Falls Just Short As Coalition Talks Loom In Elias Motsoaledi
ANC Falls Short Of Majority As Elias Motsoaledi Municipality Produces Hung Council In Limpopo Elections
The African National Congress (ANC) has emerged as the leading political party in the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality in Limpopo, but its failure to secure an outright majority has resulted in a hung council, setting the stage for potentially intense coalition negotiations.
With 100% of the votes captured, the final results show that no political party managed to secure enough support to govern the municipality independently.
The ANC received the highest share of the vote, securing 48.94%, which translates into 30 council seats. Despite finishing in first position, the party fell short of the majority required to govern alone, leaving its political future dependent on possible agreements with other parties.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) finished second with 14.28% of the vote and nine seats, while the Democratic Alliance (DA) secured 10.62%, earning seven seats.
The Bolsheviks Party of South Africa recorded 7.09% and four seats, followed by the South African Communist Party (SACP), which obtained 5.28% and three seats.
Meanwhile, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) secured 2.8% and two seats, while the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) also obtained two seats after receiving 2.65% of the vote.
Smaller political formations also managed to secure representation in the municipality. The Dennilton Residents Association received 1.34%, earning one seat, while the Afrika Mayibuye Movement obtained 1.24%, also securing one seat.
The outcome represents a significant political development in Elias Motsoaledi, where the ANC remains the largest party but cannot govern without additional support.
