Obuasi SHTS Scandal: GES Breaks Silence on Reports Headmaster Has Been Cleared
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted reports claiming that the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Abdulai Zakaria, has been cleared of allegations of sexual abuse involving female students.
The Service has clarified that investigations into the matter remain ongoing, with its Disciplinary Committee yet to conclude its work and submit its final report.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Friday, November 6, 2026, GES Public Relations Officer Daniel Fenyi stated that no individual implicated in the case had been exonerated.
Fenyi’s clarification followed reports suggesting that the committee had concluded its investigations and found the headmaster innocent of the allegations.
He explained that although the committee was initially expected to submit its findings on Wednesday, it requested an additional seven working days to complete its engagements with all the alleged victims.
According to him, the committee considers the accounts of the affected students essential to ensuring that its final report accurately captures their experiences and provides a comprehensive assessment of the allegations.
He disclosed that some students who were scheduled to meet the committee failed to attend their appointments, while others required alternative arrangements to enable them to participate in the investigation.
Following the request, GES management approved the additional seven working days to allow the committee to engage all relevant individuals and obtain the necessary information before finalising its report.
Fenyi maintained that the extension was intended to ensure that the investigation was thorough and that the experiences of all affected students were adequately considered.
He further assured the public that the investigation remained active and that the committee was expected to complete its assignment within the extended timeframe.
As part of its investigations, the committee has also visited the Obuasi SHTS campus to engage students and gather further information to support its findings.
The GES has therefore urged the public not to treat reports of the headmaster’s alleged exoneration as established fact, as the disciplinary process is yet to be concluded.
