Nhyiaeso MP Stephen Amoah Questions Novelty Of Mahama’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has questioned the significance and novelty of the Mahama administration’s Big Push infrastructure programme, arguing that road construction cannot be presented as an entirely new achievement in Ghana.
The NPP lawmaker believes Ghanaians expected the government to introduce more innovative policies and interventions that would bring meaningful improvements to their daily lives rather than focus heavily on infrastructure projects that previous administrations have also undertaken.
According to Dr Amoah, building roads is not a new development in the country, as successive governments have invested in road construction as part of their development agendas.
He therefore challenged the government to demonstrate what makes the Big Push programme different from previous infrastructure initiatives and explain how it will deliver benefits beyond the construction of roads.
The Nhyiaeso MP maintained that citizens are looking for policies that can directly improve their living conditions, create opportunities and address the economic difficulties confronting households and businesses.
His comments come amid the Mahama administration’s efforts to accelerate infrastructure development through the Big Push programme, which places significant emphasis on road construction and other major infrastructure projects across the country.
The initiative is intended to improve transportation networks, strengthen connectivity between communities and support economic activities.
However, Dr Amoah’s criticism raises questions about how the government communicates its development priorities and whether its flagship programmes are delivering the kind of transformation Ghanaians expect.
His remarks also reflect the political debate between the governing NDC and the opposition NPP over infrastructure delivery, policy innovation and the government’s performance.
The government is expected to face continued scrutiny over the implementation, financing and eventual impact of the Big Push programme as projects progress across the country.
